The Battery Management System (BMS) is usually described as a “housekeeper” of batteries. As BMS can realize the intelligent maintenance and management of each battery cell: by monitoring real-time conditions of running batteries to extend the batteries’ service life as well as ensure the safety and the reliability of the entire energy storage system.
Optim's self-invented BMS has a three-layer structure, which makes it possible tomanage and control the system thoroughly—— from battery packs to battery clusters then to the entire battery system.
Optim innovatively applied the Model Simulation Technology
into our three-layer BMS structure and designed a complete set of three-layer BMS simulation model by ourselves. The simulation model has been verified and adjusted by many experiments to ensure the accuracy and stability of the BMS.
The newly upgraded BMS uses advanced Artificial Intelligence Technology
, which introduces self-learning model, dynamically modifies SOC data, improves SOC accuracy in the whole life cycle of the system (estimated SOC has an error less than 5%)
, which improves consistency of the system.
In the meantime, for temperature measurement, Optim applies a unique technology called “Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG)”
. As shown in the figure below, compared with regular Temperature Measurements (PTC), FBG has smoother curves and has the advantages of high accuracy and strong anti-electromagnetic interference ability. BMS is able to reach the temperature sampling accuracy of ±2℃
if the atmosphere temperature is at 25℃.

Safety, Reliability and Availability
Beyond improving the performance mentioned above, Optim’s newly upgraded BMS still maintains good performance of safety, reliability and availability
. BMS can effectively manage the charging and discharging performance and ensure to avoid over-charging or over-discharging during operation. Tests show that the average fault interval of Optim’s BMS is more than 4000h
. Moreover, multiple alarm and protection functions built in the system can ensure local faults are isolated so that to minimize damage.
Operation status of the battery system, such as system status, analog information, alarm and protection information, can be displayed on the monitor screens, which is easy to inspect and track.In terms of operation authority management, operation authority can be password protected, and any change on operation mode and parameters needs permission confirmation.
In addition, BMS can locally store all events and historical data of the battery system. The capacity of data recorded is up to 10000 events and 10-day historical data (which can be extended to 12 months), and the accuracy of the record is 0.1s. Recorded evets can be saved even the power is cut down. The data is reported to BCU and BMSC, and communicates with PCS and EMS via RS485 and Ethernet.
